The Export Squier JV Precision Bass
There is no catch in the Squier range - they strike us as first class guitars, excellent value for money and worthy of any players consideration, from the beginner to the pro.

Pictured above: A Squier '62 vintage Precision Bass headstock with shipping tag, and above right, a fiesta red '57 vintage model (JV59634)

Above Left: picture showing the vintage style truss rod adjuster, and pencilled neck date. Above centre: Neckplate with early JV serial number.
And photo above right: A '57 vintage Precision Bass in two tone sunburst. JV Precision Basses were available with either 3 ply tortie pickguard or single ply white guard.
Most '62 models encountered by this site have had a tortie guard fitted, and most '57 models have had a white guard, though it is not yet clear to me whether this was standard spec for each model, as the occational '57 model turns up with a tortie guard like the one pictured above right.

These two photo's above show the routing and control layout of the JV P Bass, and again we see cloth covered wire and the green capacitor commonly used.

Above: A better view of the control rout, and above right is a view of the back of the headstock, showing the 'reverse winding' vintage stye replica tuners, and (period correct) strap button

Above: More routing and control detail, this time on a very early Fender logo model, JV02xxx (Photo's Courtesy: Laurent Pochet).

Above: Here is another picture of Laurent's beautiful '57 vintage Precision Bass, this time with it's clothes on (awesome!). This guitar can also be seen on the Gallery 4 page.
Above left: A close up shot of the vintage style reverse wind tuners from a very early large Fender logo Precision Bass. (Photo Courtesy: Bernd Dahringer). Compare these with the tuners from a genuine 1962 Precision Bass, above right.

Above left: The Tuners found on later Squier JV Precision Basses. Above right: Another '57 vintage 2 tone sunburst model (Note thumbrest modification by owner).
Above: Colours available were: 3 tone sunburst (62 vintage), 2 tone sunburst ('57 vintage), white, black, and (from mid 1983) fiesta red.
Above: A very early Squier JV Precision Bass headstock. Almost all of these early logo's have JV serial numbers that fall into the JV0xxxx bracket. This particular example has the serial number JV08598. Photo courtesy: Ed Duncan.

Above: A full picture of the early '57 vintage' Precision Bass JV08598 owned by Ed Duncan, which has had a repacement anodised pickguard fitted and added chrome covers on the pickups and bridge, which, while not totally original, still makes for a handsome looking Bass. And below: Back view.

Above: These pictures illustrate (again) the striking Sen Ash bodies of these early models.

Above left: '57 vintage JV P Bass with pickguard removed. Above right: A picture showing the original guard that came factory fitted.
Above: A close up of the high quality SQP-2 Japanese pickups fitted as standard, with the two raised 'A string polepieces.

The two pictures above show the neck and neckpocket of JV08598. Notice the 'EX stamp on the heel of the neck and the lack of any marks in the neckpocket. As stated elswhere in these pages, this is a common feature of the early models. The strip / shim in the neckpocket is dated August 82 , but it is very 'likely' that the neck was made a month or two earlier. Unfortunately the pencilled neck date is not clear enough to read properly.

My Sincerest thanks to Ed Duncan for providing the excellent pictures of his Precision Bass JV08598.
Above left: A '62 vintage Squier JV P Bass neck. Notice the 'period correct' feature (mentioned on the JV Stratocaster page) of the truss rod hole, which has been drilled through both the maple, and to a lesser extent, the rosewood 'slab' fingerboard.
